PHYBA Winter League 2008-2009-“In Pursuit for Basketball Excellence”-Mississauga - The band was playing, teams marching, people clapping, cheering their hearts out, the gym filled to the rafters, cameras rolling with countless flashes and rushing parents trying to get to the front from the long line up and crowded hallways, one can feel the vibrant atmosphere, the excitement in the air, the fun, the organized chaos… it’s the opening ceremonies of the 13th PHYBA Winter League at the T.L. Kennedy Secondary School, November 15, 2008. Everyone was high on excitement... PHYBA Players with NorthStars now in US College National Championships!!!-It's with great pride to announce that 3 of my former players, who are now attending colleges in the States, have won their conference championships, and will be playing in their national championship tournament.A.J. Mandani - This player has been with me from 10 years old until he finally left for South Suburban College in Chicago (Junior College). Last year they won their Region IV, and went to the Nationals, and emerged 7th in the nation. This year, South Suburban improved to a 29-4 record -- at one point being ranked 3rd nationally... Mandani reaches for the stars south of the border as he plays for South Suburban College in Chicago!!! A.J. has been playing for PHYBA since the inaugural year. The very young and shy 8-year-old and his older brother Jon were instrumental in winning the very first Tykes Championship as member of the Brampton Cougars. It was evident at such a young... Coach Profile -  The head coach of North Stars did not want the coaching job. When he was first approached to coach the North Stars Tykes team eleven years ago, it had been years since he was in a gym, and he was reluctant to coach a team in a league he had no experience with. But after much, much, prodding by his father, Jose Tomines was brought to the small Hillside gym, saw the young eager faces, and realized how much he missed the game.
